Hue grew up during the emergence of personal computers. He began programming at a young age, but couldn’t fully develop his interests since computers were expensive at the time. He ended up majoring in Engineering, but after his internship at PG&E, he discovered he didn’t fully enjoy working as an engineer. He then came to work in a computer consulting firm. Shortly afterwards, he founded a computer company.
During the recession, Hue had to take a contract job to make ends meet. The contract job involved upgrading PCs, and he was concerned when he saw perfectly capable Windows XP machines piling up unused in a storage room. The fire marshal said it was a fire code violation, and that the computers needed to be cleared out. Hue investigated to see if the decommissioned computers could be given to his non-profit,
RRRcomputer.org, and be donated to children. He was surprised to hear that the answer was “no”. The PCs were instead given to a recycler as if they were non-functional.
Since then, Hue has focused more time on RRRcomputer.org and inviting volunteers to help with the cause. He believes companies should prioritize their Corporate Social Responsibility efforts towards benefitting children and providing equal access to computers. He believes that social responsibility can go a long way if corporations and passionate individuals work together.
